Ask an Expert - Forum > Letterpress paper for woodcuts

I have recently acquired a platen press C & P 8x12 letterpress and I am planning to print my 5x7 and smaller woodcut illustrations on this press. After printing, I plan to do a little hand coloring; either watercolor or pencil. I was wondering what paper you would suggest for printing.
Thank you

Hello,

Most/all of the current letterpress papers on the market should be suitable,,,the more well-known brands would be Lettra, Savoy, Arturo, and Colorplan to name a few.

The papers with 100% cotton content, such as Lettra and Savoy, will have a more porous or "open" surface which will aesthetically affect the results of the watercolor and pencil.

I always recommend doing some trialing so you know what to expect before making a final decision on paper.
