Ask an Expert - Forum > print paper for watercolor?

I have print paper left over from a class, and wonder if it can be used for watercolor.
Or if there are drawbacks.

Depends on what paper you're using as some papers made for printmaking have greater amounts of external sizing than others, which makes a paper suitable for watercolor. Having said that, the best way is to test.

Thanks for the quick response. It's only called Stonehenge print paper, 250 gsm.
I hope the lack of sizing won't mean that it is less archival with watercolor.

Stonehenge is a 100% archival, acid-free and lignin free paper. It takes some watercolor paints well.
