I’m looking for the best printmaking paper and weight for a student’s project. She is using a linoleum cut to create the embossing. She is briefly soaking the paper and has three intaglio blankets on the press. She is currently using Strathmore printmaking paper, heavy weight (series 400). Any recommendations?

Your student should not use the Strathmore Heavyweight Series 400 paper for this, because it’s a machine made paper. Using a mould made paper for this printmaking technique is better because it has little surface sizing. We recommend trying Rives BFK (250,280 gsm), Somerset Velvet (250,280,300 gsm) or Somerset Satin (250, 300 gsm)- which are all great mould made options best for what she’s doing. Most likely the satin over the velvet because it’s a smoother sheet and can pick up the tone better. Since your student is using three intaglio blankets, we suggest using a heavier sheet.
