Ask an Expert - Forum > Very stubborn oil spot on Yupo

Re: Portrait begun on Yupo. Having wiped out part of the paper in order to correct, there now are several areas of the paper repellant to a wash of watercolor. Have tried alcohol, the Sandy-Sandy Dawn detergent approach, and the Cadmium Yellow approach (which worked for me once before) but the areas persist. Is there something I can add to the watercolor wash to help it adhere? What else can I try? Thanks much for any help.

If the oil is from fingerprints then the Dawn and/or alcohol should work. Make sure you're using a high percentage (90%+) of isopropyl .

Occasionally, an area of YUPO will resist watercolor paint. To avoid this, simply add a few drops of oxgall to your paint.

Once all the oil has been removed then the watercolor wash should not be dispersed by anything any longer.
