Ask an Expert - Forum > Arches Text Laid for Printmaking?

Can Arches Laid Text be used for printmaking, specifically screen printing, relief and intaglio? I used a Canson laid paper in the 70s and the laid portion required extra pressure on the squeegee whilst screen printing to get a 100% ink deposit. I assume the laid texture is a deterrent to intaglio. Thanks.

Arches Text Laid should be fine for silkscreen - the laid finish is not that pronounced. It also depends how many colors you are planning to lay down. The reason is because the paper is only 120gsm (fairly light). The more colors you lay down the greater the chance for the paper buckling. As it relates to intaglio printing - again the paper is lightweight - usually most printers would prefer a heavier gram sheet (cover stock) to ensure there is no cracking around the plate edge during printing. Your best bet to test papers first before starting any work or project.
