Ask an Expert - Forum > Inkjet/Watercolor Paper

Looking to find roll (24 inch) (or flat) stock to use on an Epson printer, not to reproduce a watercolor, but a paper which will accept watercolor after being printed.

What Epson calls "watercolor" reproduces images beautifully, but its surface actually almost rejects actual watercolor media....

Any recommendations?

Watercolor papers have heavy internal and external sizing to prevent the paper from absorbing all the pigment and spreading. Most of the coated inkjet papers have very little sizing so when you apply a watercolor wash the pigment will bleed. There are a few coated papers that will accept watercolor. You might want to try our Entrada Rag paper. It is a harder/smoother paper that can accept a light wash. You might also want to try the Museo textured. Happy to send you some samples to test, as this will be the only way to determine whether it works for you.

Was there any success with either of these papers? I have the same challenge, although I was originally thinking of printing our line art by laser printer or copier, rather than inkjet... either would work for me, but needs to be something I can add color to with watercolor. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks.
