Ask an Expert - Forum > stonehenge or coventry rag

Hi
I'm buying screen-printing paper in Australia and suppliers are describing Coventry rag and Stonehenge as having the same/similar surfaces. I have to order inter-state so i can't see the surface. Can you confirm that this would be somewhat true of Coventry rag VELLUM but not of Coventry rag smooth. They sell here in 290gsm 76x112 cms or 30x45", so am I right in assuming that this must be vellum? Can you confirm that I would not be making a mistake buying Coventry rag vellum for detailed fine art screen-printing. My works contain large areas of solid colour Many thanks Steve

Hi Steve,

To answer your questions:
- Coventry Vellum and Stonehenge have fairly similar surfaces.
- Coventry 290gsm 30x44 (76x112cm) is the vellum, correct.

As for using Coventry for screenprinting - that's what it's there for. Coventry is the first paper we recommend for screen printing. Large areas of color, many layers of color - you're in good hands.

Please let us know if there's anything else you need. And send over an image of your final print(s). We'd love to see them!
