I have been using BFK Rivers printmaking papers for some acrylic ‘works on paper’. It is wonderful paper with a lovely texture, stays flat and takes a lot of punishment! Is there a down side to using acrylics on this paper, perhaps in the long term?
There's no downside to using acrylics on BFK Rives - even for the long-term. You just don't want to lay the paint down heavy due to the minimal sizing (as compared to watercolor papers, for example).
Thank you so much for your reply. Can you explain to me what can happen with heavy paint and minimal sizing? I have a few pieces that have a few layers of paint. Not impasto, but not just a wash either. Thank you!
If you lay down heavy then there is risk with the paper buckling on a sheet not heavily sized. Watercolor paper is heavily sized both internally and externally to accept wet media and heavy washes with little-to-no buckling.
Thank you.
