Ask an Expert - Forum > Tradesman who recently discovered Peace, in art.

Hello, to whomever can assist, I have recently discovered art, through a trade I've worked my entire Life. In the process I've also discovered and obtained a Peace, worth spreading. I now have an opportunity to create on a larger scale, only I am not sure about paper quality in a very large size. My work is fine line geometrical drawings, commonly drawn on (18"X24") Strathmore drawing paper, using (Micron) archival ink. Please, when possible, email me a recommendation for a new drawing size of 93"X57". Thank you, -Eric

Since you’re currently working with Micron archival ink and fine-line geometric drawings, I would recommend looking at a few 100% cotton fine art papers that maintain excellent dimensional stability, smoothness, and archival quality when working at larger sizes.

A few large format papers that may work particularly well for your application are:

• Stonehenge Paper
Stonehenge is one of the most popular drawing papers for precision work, colored pencil, graphite, and archival ink applications. It has a very smooth surface with enough tooth for controlled linework and is available in rolls up to 50" x 140yd.

• Coventry Rag Smooth & Vellum
Coventry Rag was originally developed for high-registration printmaking and has excellent dimensional stability, which becomes increasingly important at large sizes. The Smooth surface would be best for pen work and crisp geometric detail. Rolls are available up to 60" x 50yd.

• Lenox 100
Lenox has a slightly more traditional drawing surface with a bit more texture while still handling pencil and ink beautifully. Rolls are available up to 72" x 20yd.

I would suggest you order the Drawing Samples Paper Collection from our sample department so you can test your application on a variety of fine art papers:
