Ask an Expert - Forum > Rises when brushed with water?

I'm trying to find a white paper, that when brushed or dabbed with water, it rises from the general surface area of the page considerably. I'd like to make a topographical map, and model of a mountain with it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi John,

A heavyweight blotting paper will be the closest thing we can recommend. It will swell with water and can even be used to cast an object. That said, you won't be able to specifically pinpoint spots and have the surface area rise a specific amount based on the amount of water used.

You can also use a printmaking paper and use a relief process in order to have the "mountains" rise from the page. You'd be amazed at how raised an impression you can get with certain papers without tearing.
