Ask an Expert - Forum > Oversize Paper for Asian Calligraphy (Xuan or similar)

Hello! I am looking for very large white paper that can be used well for traditional Asian calligraphy. The size I am looking for is basically as big as possible (over 5' wide). The standard for Chinese calligraphy is known as Xuan paper, however I cannot find any large enough through the western internet (I am based in CA). Your website's paper selector pointed me to some promising options. However, would you have any advice that would help me narrow this down? Do you have a go-to type of large paper that would work well with Chinese ink? Thank you so much :) and I hope to do business with you soon!

Many papers utilized for Chinese calligraphy are traditionally made from mulberry and are fairly lightweight. Our Mulberry paper is available in rolls up to 38" wide. More information can be found here:

Another paper that performs well with calligraphy is Masa. It's available in a 43" wide roll, but is a bit heavier than Mulberry (77gsm) and is made from wood instead of Mulberry.

Both these papers are available through one of our many art material resellers. A 'Where to Buy' link to those stores can be found on the bottom right of each product page on our website.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're here to help.
