Ask an Expert - Forum > High quality paper for graphite/charcoal

We are looking for a high quality drawing paper for an artist. I’ve listed out the requirements/ medium below to be specific. - Medium: for pencil/ charcoal - Large size drawing paper (A0 size or rolls) - Archival quality (Certified for long term preservation) - Approx 200 gsm minimum - Fine grain texture/ textured Needs to be: - Durable - allowing for erasing/ corrections/ retouching - Preferably with cream tone and other off-whites, but if it only comes in white, that’s fine too - Good for the drawing medium (enhances soft shadows, subtle transitions and crisp details) Please let us know if you have any recommendations on above.

The two best papers that meet your specifications are either Stonehenge or Lenox 100.

Surface Texture:
Both papers have a luxurious vellum texture that allows for detailed blending and multi layering of graphite/charcoal. Stonehenge is slightly rougher; however, the difference is marginal. I would say choosing between the two textures is more of the artists preference.

Surface Durability:
As 100% cotton papers, both are acid free, pH neutral and archival. The surface is considered medium to hard which allows for medium to high pressure as well as erasing without pulling up fibers.

Color: Lenox comes in one shade of white that lives between Stonehenge's White and Warm White. Stonehenge is available in 9 different shades including Warm White, Natural and Cream.

Size:
Lenox - Available in sheet size of 38"x50" and rolls size 60"x20yd & 72"x20yd
Stonehenge - Available in sheet size of 38"x50" and roll size 50"x10yd
