Ask an Expert - Forum > Paper and adhesive for correcting Family Bible

Hello. We recently paid someone to add missing names to our 1866 family Bible. Unfortunately, some of the names were put in the wrong order and misspelled. I would like to cover the mistakes and redo them correctly. Any advice?

We are very sorry to hear that additions to your family heirloom were improperly added. We highly recommend using a professional paper, book restoration, or conservation specialist to correct the mistakes, especially considering the age and sentimental value of an 1866 family Bible.

Attempting to cover or remove the incorrect names yourself may cause further damage to the paper or original entries. A conservator can assess the type of ink and paper involved and recommend the safest method for correction. In many cases, they can make repairs using archival, reversible materials that preserve the integrity of the document.
