Ask an Expert - Forum > Paper for blind embossing on etching press

Could you please recommend a paper (or two) for blind embossing using an etching press? Something white or off-white. Is there any paper you can recommend that would work dry? Or do all the recommended papers need to be dampened in advance?

When using an etching press we recommend dampening papers as the moisture relaxes the cotton fibers which allows for the finest impression; however, if you prefer to print dry, a softer paper will work.

We recommend Somerset Satin 250gsm or 300gsm which comes in white and soft white. This paper can be dampened but also offers a soft surface texture if you wish to forgo the dampening process. The smooth surface texture of Somerset Satin will produce the finest details and the pliable surface texture is able to take immense pressure without damaging the cotton fibers.
